Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pathanamthitta has been identified as Special Study Centre (SSC-Code no:1471D ) of IGNOU, New Delhi. CARD-Krishi Vigyan Kendra is one of the two IGNOU Centers in Kerala imparting specially designed courses, on value added products from fruits and vegetable, of School of Agriculture, IGNOU.
The course programe is designed particularly to impart knowledge and skills for minimizing the post-harvest losses, primary processing of fruits and Vegetables at the production areas/clusters and production of Value added products.
The topics covered under the modules are:
- Introduction to fruits and vegetables
- Post harvest management
- Factory standards and product specifications
- Processing and value addition
- Quality assurance
- Packaging of fresh fruits and vegetables and their processed products
- Marketing of fresh fruits and vegetables and their processed Products
- Setting up an enterprise
- Institutional support to Entrepreneurs
The course also provides student support activities. The printed study materials will be distributed to the participants. The learning package also contains the audio and video films produced by IGNOU. The counseling session are held based on the programme schedule drawn by the Special Study Centre.
The minimum eligibility criteria for admission are any 8th standard passed out who can read and write English. The course is of 22 sessions covering 11 session each of theory and practical and normally is of one half month duration. After successful completion of the programme IGNOU will issue certificate to the participant.
